LSU Was Well Represented at SEATA Student Symposium

The Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association (SEATA) recently hosted their 25th Annual Student Symposium this February 4th-6th in Atlanta, GA. Each year SEATA invites undergraduate Athletic Training Students to submit a case study for possible presentation at the symposium. The 25 authored case studies which were selected provided a 15 minute summary of the case in moderated poster presentation sessions at the symposium. The pre-selected top 15 from the 25 presented their case studies in an oral presentation session. Here at LSU, we were pleased to have the largest representation from District IX presenting this year. LSU Team Doctors Helping in Haiti

As the unfortunate events in Haiti have occurred many people have come together to help. Among these people are a few of the commonly used orthopedic physicians at LSU. Dr. Craig Greene, an orthopedic trauma specialist, was in the first round of physicians that left for Haiti January 17 and is heading up “TheGreeneTeam”, which is the name the group of orthopedists gave themselves. On January 21 a new group of physicians traveled to Haiti. Among this group were Head LSU Team Orthopedists, Dr. Brent Bankston, and Dr. Larry Ferachi.

As the recovery of Haiti continues we ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to the effected Haitians as well as all those attempting to do their part in lending help. If you wish to make a donation towards the Haiti relief, you will see a link at the bottom of the WAFB story mentioned above.

LSU Athletic Training Student of the Month

Congratulations to Dani Klein! Dani was voted on by the LSU Athletic Training Staff and Certified Graduate Assistants to be the Athletic Training Student of the Month. Her exemplary work ethic and willingness to help others has proven to be a great example for all students around her. Dani has been in the Athletic Training Education Program for two years working in year one with the Football program. She currently is assigned in her clinical rotation to Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. With a group of 45 swimmers and 5 divers, Dani has found a great balance in managing their daily care, treatments, doctors’ visits, and rehabilitations. Our staff is very excited for Dani as she will be the first female athletic training student from Louisiana State University offered an NFL Summer Internship. She has been invited by the Buffalo Bills to participate in their 2010 summer pre-season camp in Rochester, New York. “I understand the importance of this internship for Dani and LSU Athletic Training,” says Shelly Mullenix, Senior Associate Athletic Trainer. “It is an incredible opportunity to show the Buffalo Bills and the National Football League that our female athletic training students represent themselves with class and dignity. Dani has proven that with hard work, dedication and strong morals, females can be given the opportunity to change the way they are perceived in a league dominated by males.”
